The students will have to take the following steps to get a MSN degree: Complete the required undergraduate general education requirements of
the university as well as cognate courses required by the College of Nursing. Outlined below are the undergraduate general components required: General education/cognate subtotal: 57 s.h. These 57 semester hours may be taken at ECU or transferred from accredited community colleges and/or four-year colleges and universities. Many of these credits will be a part of the student's associate degree or diploma nursing program. Generally, an academic credit from other accredited institutions is accepted by ECU if a grade of C or higher is earned. There is no time limit for acceptance of academic credit. Advanced placement credit can be obtained by examination or the College-Level Examination for Placement (CLEP) program. The Director of RN to BSN Studies and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will evaluate the above credits. Complete upper-division nursing courses that reflect the objectives of
the baccalaureate nursing program and assist the student to achieve the

The RN to MSN student earns 33 semester hours of placement credit upon completion of NURS 3900, Concepts in Professional Nursing. An additional 3 semester hours of credit will be earned upon successful completion of the required upper-division nursing courses.
A 3.0 grade point average must be maintained in the required upper-division RN to BSN courses to be eligible to continue in the RN to MSN option.
After completion of required RN to BSN courses, the RN to MSN student will apply to the graduate school for admission to the MSN program.
Meet all the graduate requirements of the MSN program and of the concentration
that the student is enrolled in.
