The National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN PAX)

Students applying for the Bachelor of Science in nursing program are now required to take the NLN PAX exam as part of their application to the program.  Students achieving a total score of at least 110 and at least the 50th percentile in each subtest area will be given preference when evaluating applicants for admission.

The NLN PAX exam is offered through the East Carolina University Testing Center and costs $60.00.  Students need to take the exam early to allow time for remediation and to retake the exam if necessary.  You are allowed to retake the exam as many times as there are versions of the test.  Students applying for the fall 2010 nursing class will need to take the exam prior to the February 1, 2010 application deadline.

The NLN PAX exam will be offered at ECU on the following dates:
October 24, 2009
November 7, 2009
November 21, 2009
January 16, 2010
January 30, 2010
February 20, 2010
March 20, 2010
May 15, 2010

Additional dates and times for 2010 - 2011 will be posted on the College of Nursing website at a later date.  You must register for the exam at least two weeks prior to the scheduled test date.  Information regarding the cost and procedure for rescheduling an exam is on the NLN-PAX website:  https://www.nlnonlinetesting.org/pax.

To register for the NLN PAX exam follow these steps:

1. Go to https://www.nlnonlinetesting.org/pax and click on "Register Now".
2. Enter a log in ID and password and click "Continue".
3. Enter contact information and click "Continue".   Note:  There are additional pages of required information.
4. Click "Create Account" once you have entered all required information.
5. Choose "Registered Nurse (RN) program" after your page is redirected to the Registration Store and prompted to choose an exam.  Select the State in which you are taking the exam and the Institution.
6. Select the date you have chosen from the "Test date options", and click, "Register for paper-based exam".
7. Pay for the exam.  You will be prompted for information to pay for the exam.
