Walter R. Houston, EdD, LPC
Primary responsibility for the SDCC in the College of Nursing is assigned to Dr. Walter R. Houston. Dr. Houston received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Memphis. He received his Masters of Arts in Religion and Counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. He then furthered his education by returning to the University of Memphis where he earned his Doctor of Education in Counseling and Personnel Services. Dr. Houston has over 30 years experience as a counselor and is a Licensed Professional Counselor with Supervisor status. Dr. Houston has professional interests in readiness for higher education, critical thinking, Post Traumatic Stress, Grief and Spirituality. Dr. Houston has five children and three grandchildren. His interests include baseball, automobiles, fishing, landscaping and history.
Melissa Wallace, MS, NCC, LPCA
Melissa Wallace received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, New York. She completed a Master of Science Degree from East Carolina University in Counselor Education and earned a Post-Master’s Certificate in Advanced School Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mrs. Wallace is nationally recognized as a National Board Certified Counselor and is licensed by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors as a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate. She has experience in educational counseling and has practical experience in both the K-12 setting and in higher education. Mrs. Wallace is married and has two children. Her interests include spending time with her family, traveling, and sewing
