Goals & Objectives

Maximize the academic success of nursing students.

  • Provide assessment and interventions in the areas of study skills, reading, learning and cognitive development.
  • Provide assessment and interventions related to academic and performance anxiety.
  • Provide preparation programs which maximize the nursing students' ability to pass the NCLEX examination.

Maximize the personal development of nursing students.

  • Provide assessment and interventions focused on the personal concerns of students including but not limited to stress management, interpersonal skills and personal adjustment.
  • Provide support to the students' significant others to assist in the personal adjustment to the demands that medical education places on relationships.
  • Provide nursing students with the awareness and skills necessary for dealing with diverse populations.

Maximize the academic success of pre-nursing students.

  • Provide assessment and interventions in the areas of study skills, reading, learning and cognitive development.
  • Provide assessment and referral of personal adjustment issues.

Recruit minority and disadvantaged students for nursing careers.

  • Market all nursing careers to minority and disadvantaged undergraduates.
  • Prepare and assist students in their preparation for and application to all professional schools.
  • Increase the awareness of the public school and population related to medical and health science careers and the emphasis ECU and College of Nursing places on admission and graduation of minority and disadvantaged students.
