Beta Nu Scholarships and Grants

The Beta Nu Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau is pleased to announce that we will be offering a graduate nursing scholarship ($500), an undergraduate nursing scholarship ($500), Research Dissemination Travel Grants (up to $2000 total allocation), two Research Grants ($1,000 each), and International Professional Development Grants (up to $500 total allocation). You must be a member of Beta Nu Chapter to apply for these scholarships and grants.  To apply, please send the prescribed information (below) for the scholarship/grant for which you are applying to Dr. Martha Engelke by October 20, 2013 (for fall scholarships/grants) or by January 15, 2014 (for spring grants).  The Research Travel Grants and International Professional Development Grants are awarded throughout the year (deadlines do not apply for these grants).


Undergraduate Nurse Scholarship ($500): Awarded at the Fall Banquet

  • Name, phone contact, email contact.
  • Program enrolled in and number of hours completed.
  • Contributions to Sigma Theta Tau (250 words maximum).
  • Professional Goals (250 words maximum).
  • Attach a letter of reference from a faculty member in your program.

Graduate Nurse Scholarship ($500): Awarded at the Fall Banquet

  • Name, phone contact, email contact.
  • Program enrolled in and number of hours completed.
  • Contributions to Sigma Theta Tau (250 words maximum).
  • Professional Goals (250 words maximum).
  • Attach a letter of reference from a faculty member in your program.

Research Travel Grants: Awarded throughout the year (Total Allocation $2000, individual awards will be less and dependent on the number and quality of applications):

  • Name, phone contact, email contact
  • A copy of the abstract and acceptance letter for the conference you want to attend.
  • A budget for the travel (registration, travel, per diem).
  • A paragraph describing your research trajectory and goals (maximum 250 words.)
  • A paragraph describing your contributions to Beta Nu Chapter (maximum 250 words.)

Research Grants: Awarded at the Spring Banquet (These 2 grants are for $1000 each to support a proposed or ongoing research study.  These 2 grants require a specific application form. Please click here for the application form.

International Professional Development Grants: Awarded throughout the year (Total Allocation $500, individual awards may be less and dependent on the number and quality of applications):


Eligibility:
Beta Nu members engaged in international research with global partners or who will attend a professionally sponsored trip to another country. Preference will be given to projects or travel that focuses on expanding our understanding of the cultural determinants of health or global health issues. Recipients must be willing to present a report about their project at a Beta Nu meeting if requested.


Send the following information to the chair of the Research Committee:

  • Name, phone contact, email contact
  • A description of the project or a copy of the abstract for the conference.
  • A paragraph describing how funding of this project/ travel will contribute to an increased understanding of global or cultural issues.
  • A budget (include the total budget, what the Beta Nu funds will be used for and what other funds will be used to support the project/travel).
  • A statement about past grants you have received from Beta Nu Chapter, how long you have been a member of the chapter and in what manner you have been involved in chapter activities.
  • Please limit the length of the application to 3 double spaced typed pages, 12 point font, and 1 inch margins.
